5 New Year’s Resolutions That Are Not About Losing Weight

As we leave 2020 behind and move forward to 2021; lots of ads, commercials, and friends are talking about what they will do in 2021 usually focused on improvement and losing weight.

Improvement and growth are admirable – looking long term – have you really stuck with a new year’s resolution all year? Personally, I don’t think losing weight is a bad choice; rather eating healthy and getting adequate sleep are more likely to be obtained and cause less stress.

Starting small with manageable habits can help with any tangible goal. These are some ways to help you start the new year right.

1. Sleep!!

Personally – focus on establishing a sleep pattern – a rested year with goals on taking on the day. In 2020, I picked up a weighted blanket that has made me sleep through the night and without restlessness. Poor sleep quality may lead to metabolic disorders, weight gain, and increased risk of obesity and other health conditions. I find that the weighted blanket has worked well year round.

2. Exercise!!

Get moving no matter what. Every day 20-30 minutes of something (5 times a week). While watching tv or netflix, I typically get up and do push-ups or sit ups or some other exercise to remain consistent.

3. Be fiscally responsible!!

Spend money on purchases that make sense. Work to establish an understanding of needs and wants. Do you need a 2021 car or does the 2017 you have work just fine? By adding additional debt, it causes stress and that stress impacts our health as well as additional hours needed for payment – so longer hours at work. Just think about the options. I could buy a new car – right now, I am enjoying no car payment, however with 244,000 miles – a car might need to be in my future. We will see..

4. Invest in you!!

Spend the money to make you better. Take the class online or buy the pair of shoes you feel you need to make that job interview or to get over that hurdle. It is hard to justify expenses – however spending money for a return to school or to better your opportunities is never wrong. I recently made a couple investments in me – more on this within the next month! Can’t wait to share.

5. Be Kind to You!!

Make a plan. Stick with it and make you the priority – empower you to be the best version of yourself. No negative self talk. Pick up a happiness journal to share a sentence a day over the next 5 years. I have found it really has made a huge difference. Channel your inner you. My outfit below is one of my favorites for working out. Colorful and Blades of Glory like – sometimes you just have to be comfortable in your own skin. I have come to the realization that being like everyone else is boring and having a little more fun in my life is better for my happiness. This past year I have embraced bright colors, adventure, and photography fun snaps that I would not have posted; as I have gotten older, I am happier to share and push post. Be Kind to You!

Staying Healthy Between the Pandemic, Back to School, Flu Season, and Winter Coming!

Sleep plays an important role in our health and these days it is more important than ever to keep our immune systems as healthy as can be. Lack of sleep can affect your immune system and studies show that people who don’t get quality sleep or enough sleep are more likely to get sick and/or take longer to recover.

In a recent survey of women across the USA conducted by WomenCertified Inc, data shows: 

  • 81% of women believe a good night’s sleep contributes to her overall health. 
  • 94% of women believe that the right mattress will prevent tossing and turning thereby helping her sleep better
  • 43% of women said that increasing sleep discomfort followed by 21% who said needing to change the size of the mattress was a reason to look for a new mattress 
  • 40% of women surveyed believe that you should replace a mattress every 10 years. 
  • 78% of women stated cost was a reason for prolonging the decision to change a mattress followed by 36% who felt that their mattress was still in good condition after 10 years
  • Top sleep challenges prohibiting women from getting a good night sleep were: Back/joint pain, temperature (getting too hot/cold) and a close third place tie of tossing/turning, partner disturbance, and insomnia

Mattresses should be replaced every 8-10 years.  While your mattress may look fine on the outside, did you know that an eight-year-old mattress contains more than 10 pounds of dead skin cells and the average bed is home to six billion dust mites. You read that correctly: six billion!

I don’t know about you but that alone makes me want a new mattress today!  

Since you spend a ⅓ of your life on a mattress, it is important that the mattress meet your needs. Mattresses are not all the same.  Making sure you have a good, clean mattress is key to getting good sleep.  

While a mattress is a costly investment, think of it as an investment in your health.  A fresh mattress will help you sleep better and in turn keep your immune system healthy.

13 Ways to Style Leggings

I have embraced the leggings craze and have found that it works well for all occasions. From athletic wear to work style- leggings are a must.

There are a variety of leggings out there….everything from the $2.00 pair all the way to over $145.

I have tried all different types of leggings and my stamp of approval comes from 4 price categories. The Meijer brand – MTA is quite amazing. These run about $12.00 and are perfect for working out and wearing out for errands. Another good brand I like is Zella Leggings – usually can snatch these up at Nordstrom Rack for $25.00 or Nordstrom on major sale. They are great. The third pair is Spanx – always buy on sale for $64. These are more shiny and packs you into the pant and shows no lumps or bumps. The last pair is $75 on sale – Alo Yoga Pants – these are amazing and soft. I purchased mine at Nordstrom Rack and are so comfortable.

So the picture above shows 13 ways to wear leggings. Tried and true. In these pictures are a combination of all 4 Brands that I mentioned. If you were to ask me which one I would buy if I had to choose just one…I would go with the Spanx. They are middle of the road in cost and do a great job of keeping a great physique no matter if you are slouching, eating cookies, or are not wearing a long tunic. 13 Fall Inspiration Outfits to Copy Without Breaking the Bank!

I love to shop and search for deals but also know that being able to copy and recreate styles with what is in your closet is also financially sound.

Today, I am sharing a few easy outfits to recreate.

Outfit 1: Jeans and Booties with a camel sweater (stripes are a plus).

Outfit 2: Black Dress or Black Shirt with a leopard scarf and a hat. I happen to love the baker hat style!

Outfit 3: Leopard anything. This is a cute leopard shirt dress but a leopard shirt and jeans or skirt will do the trick.

Outfit 4: Leggings, tennis shoes, and any hoodie! I happen to love Adidas Hoodies especially this crop sweatshirt as this is great for doing errands or a weekend outfit.

Outfit 5: I love this dress and any ruched bodycon dress will work paired with a leather jacket. Easy and chic.

Outfit 6: Faux leather leggings and a pullover cardigan combined with the baker hat is comfortable and can be considered dressy or chill.

Outfit 7: Skirts and High Boots with a hat….love the mini and boot season.

Outfit 8: Sweater Dresses are perfect transitions from summer to fall and fall to winter- add scarf or not…boots or heels.

Outfit 9: Leggings, tennis shoes, sweatshirt – all in black and throw on a pom pom hat and ready for exercise or just fun!

Outfit 10: Leggings, High Boots, Tunic, and a scarf with a fun hat! Easy and simple.

Outfit 11: A black dress and the jean jacket! Who doesn’t love a jean jacket??

Outfit 12: Camel sweater and a beret

Outfit 13: Leggings (not black) and paired with a long sleeve athletic shirt and tennis shoes…
